Jamie Foxxand Dave Franco star in the vampire hunting movie "Day Shift". The movie follows the story of a hard working blue collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international Union of vampire hunters.
It sounds like a fun idea, but can J.J. Perry bring it to life?
The movie's first scene is an action sequence featuring Jamie Foxx firing a shotgun at a woman who turns into a vampire. This then becomes a nuts fight sequence between the two of them that is such a blast. I think the movie is having a lot fun with the rag-doll action scenes. It makes those sequences pop in an action movie that's not as popular as some of the other Netflix action movies or blockbusters.
Day Shift has the quality of a bad movie. It is clear what they were trying and yet they fail so badly. The acting is terrible, the dialogue is stilted, the plot is confusing. But somehow, I found myself enjoying it. Perhaps it's because of my Day Shift 2022 love for vampire movies or because I enjoy bad movies. Day Shift was a fun movie. Although it's not a great film, it's still a lot fun. That's really all I want from a movie such as this.
Day Shift was a mixed film. While there's a lot fun action and some interesting characters (the brothers, Seth) there's also a terrible villain and a lot more mediocre characters. It felt like some scenes had been left out. Bud's neighbor acts almost like they're close friends, even though Bud only had three minutes of screen time prior to the final scene. That helps the good characters shine even further. The movie is enjoyable overall, but there were some things that could have been done better.
Snoop Dogg makes this movie well worth it. Snoop Dogg is loved by everyone. He's the definition of cool.
